Are you Interested in joining the Ski Patrol?
The Pacific Northwest Region has openings and we are currently recruiting patrollers for the 2018-2019 season.
If you've thought about joining the National Ski Patrol, there's no better time than right now.
But before you can put on that coveted red jacket, and start helping patients, you'll need to go through training in the following areas: Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC), CPR, toboggan handling, and lift evacuation. And yes... you have to take a ski/snowboard test. But don't stress over that last test, because mostly what we're looking for, is to see if you're comfortable on you're skis or snowboard. Believe me - we will teach you how to ski or snowboard properly, and you'll get in plenty of laps to practice those new techniques (including the first tracks of the day after some fresh pow).
Before you sign up, you need to know that patrolling isn't for everyone. It demands a high level of commitment and a great deal of time. Some days can be physically demanding, and mentally exhausting. If you're not into helping people, being a productive member of a team, or interacting with other people, this probably isn't going to be a good fit. On the other hand, there's no better feeling than coming to someone's aid when they're having a really bad day, or sometimes even saving their life. Putting on that red jacket, and being a dedicated patroller, will teach you new skills, and a lot of personal satisfaction. Along with those good feelings, you'll also get to get access to some killer pro-deals through numerous NSP sponsors and other companies.
Here is some information about the medical (OEC) portion of the training. If you're an EMT, A-EMT, or PARAMEDIC the NSP Board just approved (05-17-18) an abbreviated path for you to join the Patrol.
The OEC course is classroom based with lecture, practical and hands on experience.
Requirements:
If you are a currently certified EMT, AEMT, or Paramedic through NREMT and or SNHD, you are allowed to present your current certification to the Ski Patrol and challenge only the Practical skills to gain reciprocity. This new policy in the National Ski patrol will afford us an easier way to continue to grow within and with our medical community!
We have practical skills exam scheduled, so when you reach out to us, ask us when the next available exam is scheduled. One caveat - if you fail the practical skills exam you will be required to take the entire OEC course to gain OEC certification. Please check back regularly to schedule your challenge exam.
